Video Recordings

Video recordings refer to the process and result of capturing moving visual images and sounds onto a storage medium for playback, documentation, or analysis. Historically, video recordings were made using videotape, which is magnetic tape designed to store video and usually sound signals, either in analog or digital form. The tape stores information linearly, meaning accessing specific parts requires physically moving the tape to the correct position. Video recordings allow for playback of the recorded content on compatible devices, and tapes could be erased and reused. The technology enabled users to record television shows, create home movies, and rent or purchase commercial videotapes. However, videotape has largely been replaced by digital recording media such as hard disks and flash memory since the early 2000s.
